Wrexham County Borough Museum and The Football Museum of Wales

Description

A prominent feature in the Wrexham townscape, Wrexham County Borough Museum is a Grade II listed attraction boasting annual visitor figures in the region of 50,000. Mainly focussed on the heritage of the County Borough, the existing building will be rationalised, extensively refurbished and sympathetically extended to enable it to take on another facet of proud Welsh history; football.

The scheme provides a dual-function museum to the public with both Wrexham County galleries and Welsh Football galleries alongside an enhanced café and learning offering to provide a truly state-of-the-art exhibition. The ‘nationally-styled’ Football galleries will aim to display the history of the game in Wales from its establishment in the late 19th Century to the present day.

As part of the sustainability strategy, the project is also to achieve BREEAM “Very Good”, necessitating extensive enhancements to the existing building.
