Richard joined MDA Consulting Ltd in 1998. He was promoted to Director in 2017 and became a Director of MDA Holdings Ltd in 2025. Based in London, he is Head of Cost Consultancy across the business and runs the London 1 surveying team.

Richard is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS), holds a BSc(Hons) in Quantity Surveying and Construction Project Management and is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (ACIArb). 

Experienced across Cost Consultancy, Project Management, and Bank Monitoring, Richard has worked internationally in the Caribbean, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East, plus over 20 years’ experience in the UK market. He has worked extensively in high end residential, hotel and leisure sectors, with further experience in retail, airports, commercial and oil & gas. He is familiar with most procurement routes and contractual arrangements including negotiated, design and build, two stage, construction management, EPC and a range of contract forms from the JCT, AIA and FIDIC as well as bespoke arrangements. 

Richard also has experience in international construction disputes having worked on arbitrations and adjudications in the UAE providing opinion on quantum.

Interests/Hobbies

In his spare time Richard enjoys travel, cooking, gardening, aviation and cycling, as well as reading his considerable collection of National Geographic magazines.

Richard has recently spent two and a half years renovating his Victorian terrace house, whilst living in it – he should have known better!
